Compassion child- Jomark

For the past couple years at SWITCH we have been sponsoring a child through Compassion (Jomark) in the Philippines. Every now and then, Jomark sends us a letter, a couple of which are below:

Dear SWITCH EFC East Lindfield,

How are you all there? I trust you are all doing fine as you receive this letter. I thank you for sending me a gift last Christmas.

We are going to have and educational tour this Saturday at an Eco Village where there is a bird sanctuary and a watersports complex where tourists come for wakeboarding.

I pray that the Lord will always guide you and keep you safe in all you do everyday.

Please pray for me too for my studies and to always have good manners.

Thank you so much for being such a good friend. I hope you will write to me soon.

Love Jomark

Matthew 10:14

Jesus said “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

June 2009

Dear Switch,

Good day to you all. I hope you are doing well as you receive this letter.

The recent vacation we had our sportsfest at the small park near the student centre. There were lots of games and we all enjoyed it. How about you, what were your activities? Do you also have sports activities in the church during vacation time?

I pray that God will always guide you and keep you safe. And you will always be strong and faithful in serving him everyday.

Please pray for me that God will five me guidance in my studies and develop my right values. Again, I am thankful for having friends like your group. I wish you also answer my letter. Thank you very much, until next time.

God bless you

With Love, Jomark.

Psalm 92:1-2

It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night.

Teehee! Then we wrote back!

Dear Jomark,

Sorry for delays in writing back to you. Thank you for your letters and updates about what you’ve been up to. We have been having a wonderful year at youth group learning about Jesus and what it means to live a life which pleases him because he gave his life for our sins and saved us from God’s anger and judgment. We have also seen lots of new friends join our youth group so they can also hear about Jesus. Some have them have even become Christians! Praise God!

We hear you have been experiencing some wild weather lately with the typhoons. We hope you and your family are okay and pray that God will protect you all.

You have also asked us if we play sport- we love sport in Australia! We often play soccer or just kick a ball around after church.

Until next time, remember Jesus’ love for you when he died for you and whether you’re studying, playing, or talking to family and friends, remember to do it in a way which pleases him!

Love SWITCH

A little bit about Jomark

Jomark lives with his parents, sister and two brothers in the Philippines where corruption, political unrest and a high population have caused much unemployment and poverty. He helps his family at home by carrying water and cleaning.

Jomark’s father is able to earn a small income as a barber. He finds it a daily struggle to provide for the daily needs of his family.

As part of Compassion’s ministry, Jomark participates in church activities. He is also in primary school where he is making steady progress where his best subject is maths. Basketball, playing with marbles and reading are his favourite activities.

Because of our sponsorship, Jomark has new opportunities to learn and grow physically, mentally and spiritually.

Prayer points:

-Thanks God that we have the means to sponsor Jomark

-Pray for this personal development and that as he goes to church each week that he’ll be feed with the Word of God, and that he maybe able to place his trust in Jesus

-Pray that Jomark would be a good witness to his parents and siblings
