I thank God for your partnership which enables me to serve in Taiwan on behalf of EFC.
As partners with me in the gospel, I would like to share some news with you for your prayers.
God sometimes surprises us with His ways, and works through circumstances outside our plans. While I was in Singapore waiting to go to Taiwan, delayed because of visa complications last August, I met a guy named Tim. It was after my orientation course with OMF had finished, and I should have left for Taiwan. We met at OMF through a mutual friend. I later realized that his father worked at the Taiwanese Representative Office in Singapore where I had applied for my visa. Tim asked him about my visa application, and his father invited me to the office to discuss it. He was the Taiwanese diplomat I’d mentioned in a previous newsletter, who helped me reapply for my resident visa.
Over the following weeks, a beautiful friendship grew, and with much prayer, Tim and I started going out before I left Singapore for Taiwan in September.
Tim’s family moved from Taiwan to the US when he was 8 years old because of his father’s work. Tim is godly and humble, has a deep love for God and fears Him. He has a heart for mission, and is exploring opportunities to serve in Taiwan for the long term. Besides English and Spanish, Tim speaks Mandarin and a little Taiwanese. Tim worked as an engineer in the US, and has been living in Singapore since last June. He is currently teaching Science at International Community School, a Christian school where many missionary and expat kids study.
Tim and I will meet in mid-April in Hong Kong, along with my family after they come to Taiwan for a visit. There are many uncertainties concerning the future, and we would really value your prayers and support as we seek God’s will together. It is our hope that God-willing, we can serve God in Taiwan together.
Thank you for your prayers.
God bless,
Charissa
